2,3-Dihydro-4-benzofurancarboxaldehyde is a synthetic organic compound that can be used for the synthesis of epoxides, such as trichloroacetic acid. It is also an intermediate in the conversion of malonic acid to trichloroacetic acid. This product is available in solution form and can be obtained through sulfonation or chlorination of 2,3-dihydro-4-benzofurancarboxylic acid with a strong base. 2,3-Dihydro-4-benzofurancarboxaldehyde may also be used as a toolbox reagent for the synthesis of stereoselective epoxides.
