- Pyridine, 2,6-Diiodo-
2,6-Diiodopyridine is a chiral compound that is used as a building block in organic synthesis. The functional theory of 2,6-diiodopyridine suggests that the molecule is an electron donor and ligand. The rate of the cross-coupling reaction with metal cations is dependent on the type of metal ion. 2,6-Diiodopyridine reacts with pyridinium to form pyridinium salts. This reaction can be mediated by ligands such as fluoride or chlorides. 2,6-Diiodopyridine has been shown to be an effective ligand for copper in a variety of reactions including electropolymerization and cross-coupling reactions. It also has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes such as strain and pyridinium rings.
