- 2,4-Dichloro-thiazole-5-carbonitrile
2,4-Dichlorothiazole-5-carbonitrile is a chemical compound that is used in the synthesis of other compounds. This compound is inexpensively synthesized by reacting triethyl orthoformate with phosphorus oxychloride and zinc chloride. A variety of amines can be added to this reaction to produce heterocycles. The end product can be produced in high yield by using dimethylformamide as an acceptor for the generated chloride.
