Denatoniumchloride is a bitter-tasting chemical that has been used in analytical chemistry as an excipient to facilitate drug administration. It is also added to various products, including pharmaceuticals and food products to prevent accidental ingestion by children. Denatoniumchloride toxicity studies have revealed that it causes cytosolic Ca2+ release, which can lead to cell death. This chemical also inhibits the growth of bacteria by interfering with protein synthesis. Denatoniumchloride has also been shown to be effective against bowel disease and chronic cough due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins.
