1,3-Dimethoxy-2-nitrobenzene is an epoxide that can be used in the synthesis of skin care products. It is a colorless liquid that has a boiling point of 150°C and a solubility in water at 20°C of 0.1g/L. It is also soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone, ether, and benzene. 1,3-Dimethoxy-2-nitrobenzene has a reaction rate of 10% per day at 25°C and is thermostable up to 100°C. Maltol can be synthesized from this compound using sulfonation or hydrogenation reactions with sulfuric acid or hydrogen gas respectively. This product also exhibits antioxidant activity against peroxides by reacting with them to form non-radical products.
