2,6-Dimethyl pyrazine is a chemical compound that is used as a matrix effect reagent to improve the absorption of other compounds in gas chromatography. 2,6-Dimethyl pyrazine can be used as an alternative to fatty acids in solid phase microextraction. It has been shown to have a kinetic energy of 147 kJ/mol and uv absorption at 205 nm. The compound has been synthesized using reactions including hydrogenation, condensation, and nitration methods. This product is not toxic to humans and has a molecular weight of 128.2 g/mol. The compound has been shown to have coordination geometry with two nitrogen atoms and one carbon atom, which are bound by three hydrogen atoms on the right side of the molecule. FTIR spectroscopy studies show that this product absorbs at 1630 cm−1. The group designation for this product is p2.
