Dibenzyl-D-tartrate (DBTT) is an active metabolite of benzyl alcohol. It is produced by the debromination of benzene with a brominating agent such as hydrogen bromide, which converts bromine to hydrobromic acid and converts the double bond to a single bond. DBTT has been shown to inhibit the activity of x-ray crystallography in process flow tests. The crystal structure of DBTT has been determined by X-ray crystallography, and it has been shown that DBTT inhibits the demethylation and crystallization of sibutramine.
