Descrizione

Diphenylhydantoin is an anticonvulsant that inhibits the sodium channels in nerve cells, which are responsible for the propagation of nerve impulses. It is used to treat epilepsy and other seizure disorders. Diphenylhydantoin has been shown to reduce antibody responses in mice and humans, which may be due to its ability to inhibit lymphocyte transformation. Diphenylhydantoin also has cardiac effects and can lead to heart failure or arrhythmia. It has been shown that diphenylhydantoin may be a risk factor for cervical cancer and cardiac disease in fetal bovine serum-derived monoclonal antibodies. Some patients experience depression as a side effect of this drug, which may be due to its ability to inhibit monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B).
