Dehydro nicardipine hydrochloride is a magnetic nanoparticle-based drug delivery system that has been designed to target the colon. It consists of magnetite particles coated with nicardipine, which are then encapsulated in a biodegradable polymer matrix. The magnetic properties of these nanoparticles allow for targeted delivery to the colon and controlled release of nicardipine by exposure to an external magnetic field. Due to their size and superparamagnetic nature, these particles can be reproducibly synthesized using standard chemical methods. These characteristics make them ideal candidates for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases such as colitis or Crohn's disease.
