R-(-)-N-Demethyl Deprenyl is a chemical inhibitor of monoamine oxidase that is used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. It inhibits the enzyme monoamine oxidase, which breaks down dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin. R-(-)-N-Demethyl Deprenyl also has antioxidant properties and has been shown to have neurotrophic effects in humans. The matrix effect of this drug can be monitored by measuring its concentration-time curve using trifluoroacetic acid. Pharmacokinetic studies show that R-(-)-N-Demethyl Deprenyl is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes and it has a half life of about 1 hour.
