Trimipramine is a drug used in the treatment of depression. Trimipramine is an antidepressant of the tricyclic class. It blocks the reuptake of serotonin, which increases the level of serotonin in the synaptic cleft. Trimipramine has been shown to be effective for treating depression and anxiety disorders, as well as obsessive-compulsive disorder. Trimipramine is primarily metabolized by CYP2D6, with minor contribution from CYP1A2 and CYP3A4. In addition, trimipramine inhibits voltage-dependent calcium channels in human liver cells and human serum erythrocytes.
