Desbutyl bumetanide is a drug that is used to reduce blood pressure. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, which can be found in red blood cells and the kidney tubule. The drug has been shown to have a high degree of reactivity with reactive functional groups, such as 3-methylcholanthrene, which may be due to its degradable nature. Desbutyl bumetanide also interacts with other drugs by forming conjugates with glucuronic acid or sulfate groups. This drug has been shown to inhibit the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes and may affect the metabolism of other drugs by this mechanism. Desbutyl bumetanide is metabolized by hydrolysis into butanediols and glyoxylic acid, which are both pharmacologically inactive compounds.
