Deschloro florfenicol is a veterinary antibiotic that belongs to the group of sulfonamides. It is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to its active form, florfenicol. This drug has activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including mycoplasma and chlamydia. Deschloro florfenicol has been used clinically as an injectable antibiotic in pigs for the treatment of bacterial enteritis caused by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae. The drug can be reconstituted with water for injection or administered as a powder for oral dosing. The product should be diluted with water for injection or reconstituted with milk for oral administration.
