N-Desmethyl diltiazem hydrochloride (NDM) is a metabolite of the drug Diltiazem, which is used for the treatment of chronic oral and cardiovascular conditions. NDM has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of plasma concentrations of carbamazepine, an anticonvulsant medication. NDM is also a substrate for cytochrome P450 enzymes and can be found in wastewater samples. The sample preparation method can be used to measure the concentration of this metabolite in water samples. NDM is reconstituted with acetonitrile before analysis by HPLC-UV or LC-MS/MS.
