4,6-Dichloro-5-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-2,2'-bipyrimidine is a hydrogen-bonded pyrimidine derivative that is active against Gram-positive bacteria. The compound binds to the DNA of bacterial cells and disrupts the DNA replication process by inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase. This effect leads to inhibition of protein synthesis and cell death. 4,6-Dichloro-5-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-2,2'-bipyrimidine has been shown to be effective against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Clostridium perfringens, although is not active against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
