2,4-Dichloro-5-methoxypyrimidine is a synthetic, reactive chemical used in the production of pesticides. It is synthesized from ethyl formate and phosphorus oxychloride. 2,4-Dichloro-5-methoxypyrimidine reacts with chlorine to produce chlorinating agents that are used to kill insects and other pests. This compound can be used as an industrial solvent or a reagent for organic synthesis. It has a molecular weight of 194.69 g/mol and melting point of 115°C. 2,4-Dichloro-5-methoxypyrimidine has been shown to have an excitation wavelength of 289 nm with a maximum emission wavelength at 348 nm. This product is stable when stored at temperatures between 0°C and 40°C but decomposes at temperatures over 100°C.
