4,4-Difluorocyclohexanecarboxylic acid is an amide that is used in the synthesis of other drugs. It has been shown to be a potent HIV inhibitor that binds to opioid receptors in the same manner as morphine. 4,4-Difluorocyclohexanecarboxylic acid also inhibits chemokine production and blocks the CCR5 co-receptor, which is necessary for HIV infection. This drug has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth and heterodimerization of chemokine receptors. 4,4-Difluorocyclohexanecarboxylic acid can also be used in the biosynthesis of other drugs.
