Dimethyl phosphate sodium salt is a model system for studying the particle hydration process. It is an efficient method for generating particles with a uniform size distribution, which can be used to study reactions that would not otherwise work on larger or smaller particles. The hydrogen chloride and phosphate group react in the presence of a metal ion to form dimethyl phosphate sodium salt. The viscosity of this compound increases linearly as the concentration increases. Quaternary ammonium salts are also present as stabilizers in this reaction. Dimethyl phosphate sodium salt has shown antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and fungi, but not Gram-negative bacteria. This may be due to the different types of fatty acids in these organisms and their ability to bind to the surface of quaternary ammonium salts.
