2,2-Dimethylacetoacetic acid ethyl ester is a chiral compound that can be synthesized by reacting acetone with an alcohol. The compound has a molecular weight of 152.3 and a melting point of -78 °C. It has a pyrrole ring with two vicinal functional groups, which are hydroxyls and esters. This molecule has the ability to act as a ligand in organic synthesis reactions because it can undergo proton transfer or hydride transfer reactions. The nmr spectrum for 2,2-dimethylacetoacetic acid ethyl ester shows the presence of three hydrogen atoms (H), one methyl group (CH3) and one acetate group (CO2). The acetone can be seen in the spectrum at around 3.5 ppm, while the acetate appears at around 1 ppm in the spectrum. The
