2,3-Dimethylphenylacetic acid is a pharmaceutical preparation that is used in the treatment of allergies. It has been shown to have antihistaminic activity in humans and animals. 2,3-Dimethylphenylacetic acid has been shown to be effective in treating allergic reactions caused by histamine release. This drug also has antihistaminic effects that are not related to its H1 receptor antagonistic activity, but may be due to other mechanisms such as inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis or mast cell degranulation, or through its ability to inhibit the production of cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-4 (IL-4).
