Dodecanedioic acid 1-methyl ester is a fatty acid that is found in the lipid bilayer. It is used to study the uptake of branched-chain fatty acids by Escherichia coli K-12. Dodecanedioic acid 1-methyl ester has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in animals and humans. The biosynthesis of dodecanedioic acid 1-methyl ester occurs through a synthesis process of molecule coupling. This process starts with the condensation of two molecules, one containing 12 carbons, and the other containing two methyl groups. Animals are known to produce dodecanoic acid, which can be converted into dodecanedioic acid 1-methyl ester by conjugation with glycine.
