1,8-Dibromonaphthalene is a synthetic compound that can be used in the synthesis of organic compounds. This compound has two isomers, cis and trans, which differ in the orientation of the bromine atom. 1,8-Dibromonaphthalene can be obtained by cross-coupling reactions between phenylmagnesium bromide and naphthalene. The functional theory predicts that 1,8-dibromonaphthalene will have an activation energy of 10.9 kJ/mol and a linear response to amines. 1,8-Dibromonaphthalene is a stable molecule with a melting point of 177°C and boiling point of 250°C. It also has a molecular weight of 241 g/mol and a density of 1.7 g/cm3.
