2,3-Diethyl-5-methylpyrazine is a methyl ketone that is used as a model for fatty acids. It has been shown to be an important precursor for the synthesis of unsaturated ketones. 2,3-Diethyl-5-methylpyrazine can be produced by the reaction of acetone with ethylene and then subjected to acid catalyzed cyclization.
