3,4-Difluoro phenol is a chemical compound that is used to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. It has been shown to be active against a number of bacterial strains, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 3,4-Difluoro phenol binds to the CB1 receptor in the cell membrane and inhibits tyrosinase activity. The chlorine atom in 3,4-difluoro phenol may inhibit bacterial growth by binding to chloride ions in the cell wall and disrupting their function. It has also been shown that 3,4-difluoro phenol can inhibit bacterial growth by interfering with ion homeostasis and causing an increase in intracellular Ca2+ concentration. The two isomers of 3,4-difluoro phenol are not equally effective at inhibiting bacterial growth. The butyric acid ester of 3,4-difluoro phenol has been shown to have antibacterial
