2,5-Dichlorothiophene-3-sulfonamide (2,5-DCTS) is a potent inhibitor of anhydrase. It binds to the zinc atom in the active site of the enzyme and prevents water molecules from binding, which leads to inhibition of anhydrase activity. This drug has been shown to inhibit the carbonic anhydrase II in human serum. 2,5-DCTS has also been shown to have inhibitory properties against rizatriptan, a molecule that is involved in migraine headaches. A molecular modelling study revealed that 2,5-DCTS interacts with rizatriptan by forming hydrogen bonds with the nitrogen atoms on the molecule. The kinetic studies showed that 2,5-DCTS inhibits rizatriptan hydrolysis by 50%.
