It is noncombustible and has a weak odor. 4,7-Dichloroquinoline 1-oxide is an organic synthesis intermediate that can be used to make 4,7-dichloroaniline. This compound can be found naturally in the environment as a byproduct of the chlorination of phenols and other aromatic compounds. 4,7-Dichloroquinoline 1-oxide also occurs as an isomer of 2,4-dichlorophenol. Crystals are formed when this substance is heated with potassium hydroxide.
