4'-Decyloxybiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid is a transition metal compound that belongs to the group of fluoroalkyl compounds. It has been shown to have ferroelectric and mesomorphic properties, as well as unidentified activity. 4'-Decyloxybiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid has been shown to be active at liquid crystal transitions temperatures, as well as optically active due to its chiral nature. The compound exhibits spontaneous polymorphism between two forms: one form having a tetragonal unit cell and the other form having a monoclinic unit cell. This transition occurs at temperatures below 100°C.
