2,8-Dimethyldibenzothiophene is a chemical compound that is used in industry as an intermediate to produce other chemicals. 2,8-Dimethyldibenzothiophene reacts with oxygen or nitric acid to form dibenzo-p-dioxin and dibenzo-p-furan respectively. These compounds are toxic and carcinogenic substances that can cause severe environmental pollution if not properly disposed of.
