Dihexyl N,N-diethylcarbamylmethylenephosphonate (DDCMP) is a metal ion extractant that has been shown to be useful for the extraction of lanthanides and actinides. This extractant is thermodynamically more favorable than other metal ion extractants such as hydrochloric acid and nitrate. DDCMP has also been shown to have higher uptake capacity than nitrate. The uptake rate of DDCMP is dependent on the concentration of the metal ions in solution, with higher concentrations resulting in a lower uptake rate. This extractant is typically used in thin film experiments because it has a high solubility in organic solvents and ionic liquids. The product solution contains metal ions that are extracted by DDCMP.
