1,3-Dihydro-5-fluoro-1-hydroxy-2,1-benzoxaborole is a chemical compound with antiviral and antifungal properties. It has shown to be effective against a number of fungi and infections including onychomycosis (a fungal infection of the nail). 1,3-Dihydro-5-fluoro-1-hydroxy-2,1-benzoxaborole inhibits the growth of fungi by binding to the 16S ribosomal RNA. This binding prevents protein synthesis and cell division. The drug also has been shown to have no toxicity in mice when administered at high doses for up to 3 months.
