3,4-Dichlorobenzenesulfonyl chloride is a sulfonamide that has been shown to have immunomodulatory effects. It may be used as an anti-inflammatory agent in vivo by binding to the prostanoid receptor and blocking the production of prostaglandins. 3,4-Dichlorobenzenesulfonyl chloride also has anti-inflammatory effects on cox-1 receptor and has been shown to reduce inflammation in mice after traumatic brain injury when administered at a dose of 5 mg/kg. 3,4-Dichlorobenzenesulfonyl chloride binds to chloride ions, which is an integral part of the inflammatory process in mammals. This drug also has dihedral interactions with halides such as chlorine or bromine.
