3,4-Difluorophenylhydrazine is an oxime derivative that has shown antibacterial activity against a wide range of bacteria. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the enzyme pyrazolyl, which is required for the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. This compound also inhibits the growth of Staphylococcus and other gram-positive bacteria by binding to the enzyme methyl ester. The mechanism of 3,4-difluorophenylhydrazine is not fully understood but it may be due to its ability to disrupt electron transfer in cells or its effect on ATP production. 3,4-Difluorophenylhydrazine was found to be expressed in human erythrocytes and can be used as a biochemical marker for identification and differentiation.
