2,2-Difluoro-2-phenylethanamine is a synthetic amino acid that has been shown to be an analog of dopamine. It is a nucleophile and is able to undergo nucleophilic substitutions, such as ring opening and alkylation reactions. This compound has been shown to have high uptake in the brain and can cross the blood-brain barrier. 2,2-Difluoro-2-phenylethanamine stabilizes cell membranes by uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation, which leads to inhibition of ATP synthesis. The stability of this compound makes it an ideal candidate for use in drug design.
