1,2-Dibromo-4,5-difluorobenzene is an electron acceptor that has been used in synthetic organic chemistry to activate other reagents. It can be synthesized by the reaction of 1,2-dibromoethane with sodium borohydride and difluoroacetaldehyde diethyl acetal. This compound has been shown to undergo chemiluminescence reactions at room temperature and elevated temperatures. The compound also undergoes thermally activated eliminations and reductive elimination reactions. It can also be prepared by a palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between 1,2-dibromoethane and an allyl bromide derivative.
1,2-Dibromo-4,5-difluorobenzene is a multinuclear molecule that is active in the transmetallation process.
