2-[(Difluoromethyl)sulfonyl]pyridine is an aldehyde that can be synthesized by the reaction of 2-iodopropene with difluoromethanesulfonyl chloride. The synthesis of this compound has been shown to proceed efficiently at room temperature in the presence of FeCl3 as a catalyst. It reacts with alkyl halides to produce a cross-coupling product and cleaves bonds with halides and linkers, although it does not react with tetroxide or functional groups. The synthesis of 2-[(Difluoromethyl)sulfonyl]pyridine has also been shown to be efficient at higher temperatures, such as 150°C, which makes it suitable for industrial production.
