2-(Difluoromethoxy)-2,2-difluoroacetic acid is a reactive inorganic compound that has been shown to inhibit antibody response. It is a synthetic chemical that has not been found in the environment or in natural products. 2-(Difluoromethoxy)-2,2-difluoroacetic acid binds to the chloride channel of cells, which prevents the entry of chloride ions into the cell and leads to renal toxicity. This chemical also has been shown to be toxic to rat liver microsomes and is used clinically as an antidote for acute poisoning with chlorinated hydrocarbons. 2-(Difluoromethoxy)-2,2-difluoroacetic acid can be used as an analytical reagent in biochemical experiments to differentiate between enantiomers.
