8(S),15(S)-Dihydroxy-5(Z),9(E),11(Z),13(E)-eicosatetraenoic acid is a metabolite of arachidonic acid. It is the intermediate product in the transformation of arachidonic acid to leukotrienes. This process occurs in leukocytes and is catalyzed by the enzyme 5-lipoxygenase. 8,15-DHET is denatured when it binds to the enzyme and can be transformed into 8,15-DiHETE or 8,15-DHETE by an enzyme activity that uses oxygen atoms. The human body produces 8,15-DHET from arachidonic acid through a series of steps. These steps are not yet fully understood but involve at least one conjugate acid and two enzymes that transform intermediates.
