Ethyl 2-chloroisonicotinate is a pyridine compound that has been positioned as a synthetic attractant for the control of insect pests. The compound attracts insects with its flowery smell and controls them by attracting them to traps with its odor. This product is an ester of 2-chloroisonicotinic acid and ethyl alcohol. It is used to protect plants from pest damage, such as aphids, leaf miners, and mites. Ethyl 2-chloroisonicotinate has also been shown to be an olfactometer in the detection of capsicum extract.
