Ethyl N-cyclopropylglycinate (ECPG) is an imidazole derivative that belongs to the group of pharmaceutical preparations. It has a hydrogen atom in the α-amino acid radical, which is connected to a carbonyl group and two methyl groups. It also has an α-amino acid radical that is connected to two alkenyl groups. ECPG is used as a preservative in pharmaceutical preparations. It has been shown to be active against gram-negative bacteria and can be used for the treatment of infections caused by these bacteria. ECPG has antibacterial properties by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and DNA synthesis, as well as interfering with cell wall synthesis.
