Ethyl hydrazinecarboxylate is a small molecule that has been shown to induce apoptosis in human leukemia cells. It inhibits the synthesis of proteins that are essential for cell survival, such as Bcl-2, and activates caspases, which are enzymes involved in the process of apoptosis. Ethyl hydrazinecarboxylate has also been shown to be effective against HIV infection and autoimmune diseases. The long-term efficacy and safety of this drug have been demonstrated in laboratory animals and humans. This drug has also shown antihypertensive activity as well as a group P2 profile. X-ray crystal structures of ethyl hydrazinecarboxylate show that it binds with nitrogen atoms on one side of the pyrimidine ring, which may contribute to its antihypertensive activity.
