Ethyl 2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxine-2-carboxylate is a chiral compound that is used in the synthesis of other drugs. It can be produced by the mesylation of an amide with ethyl acetoacetate. The kinetics of this reaction have been studied and it has been found that the rate of transesterification is higher than that of esterification. This product also reacts with lipase to produce ethyl 2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxine-2-carboxylic acid. This reaction can occur enzymatically or by using lipase as a catalyst.
