Ethoxybenzamidine hydrochloride is a sulfonamide heterocyclic compound that inhibits the activity of phosphodiesterase enzymes, which are involved in the breakdown of cyclic nucleotides. It is used to treat cardiovascular disorders and erectile dysfunction. This drug also acts as an anticoagulant and antiplatelet agent by preventing the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin, resulting in a decrease in coagulation. Ethoxybenzamidine hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit alkyl moieties from binding to platelets and prevent platelet aggregation. In addition, this drug prevents the release of serotonin from platelets by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, which is responsible for breaking down acetylcholine.
