N-Ethanoyl-L-homoserine lactone is also used as a surface active agent and medicine to treat amines, sulfate solution, and metal ions. This product has been shown to have the ability to increase the expression of recombinant cells by restricting or inhibiting transcriptional activity at the promoter level. It is also able to stimulate the production of enzymes such as thuringiensis, which is an enzyme that produces insecticide from bacteria.
