Eicosyltriethylammonium bromide is a surfactant that is used as an emulsifying agent in liquid compositions. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of lysosomal storage disorders, such as Gaucher's disease and Niemann-Pick type C. Eicosyltriethylammonium bromide can also inhibit the enzymatic activity of maltase and glucoamylase, two enzymes that break down starch into sugar. This means that it can be used to prevent or treat diseases caused by deficiencies of these enzymes, such as diabetes mellitus. Eicosyltriethylammonium bromide can also be used for the determination of metal ions, such as phosphate ions.
