Ethyl 4-thiazolecarboxylate is an organic compound that belongs to the group of thiazole carboxylic acids. It can be used as a chemical intermediate for the synthesis of other compounds. This compound has shown antitumour activity in animal models and has been tested for its ability to inhibit the growth of human colon cancer cells (Caco-2) and leukemia cells (K562). Ethyl 4-thiazolecarboxylate has also been shown to induce apoptosis in K562 cells by inhibiting DNA synthesis and RNA transcription. The mechanism of this effect is not fully understood, but it may be due to the induction of oxidative stress or changes in intracellular pH.
