Ethoxyetylene, ethyl vinyl ether is a colorless liquid with a mild, fruity odor. It can be used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, as well as as a solvent for paints and coatings. Ethoxyetylene, ethyl vinyl ether is an intermediate in the production of pyrazole drugs and sodium salts. This compound undergoes an intermolecular hydrogen bonding transfer reaction to form the ether product. This process is exothermic and requires an external heat source. The reaction mechanism of this process is not fully understood. Ethoxyetylene, ethyl vinyl ether has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in inflammatory bowel disease that are due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis in response to inflammation.
