3-Ethoxybenzaldehyde is a carboxylate ligand that has been shown to bind to the active site of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) reverse transcriptase and inhibit HIV replication. It also inhibits the growth of bacterial cells, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. 3-Ethoxybenzaldehyde has been used to synthesize polycarbonates and fluorescent compounds, as well as intercalators. This compound has also been studied for its interactions with other ligands, such as antitubercular activity, crystallography, and light emission.
