2-Ethoxy-1-naphthoic acid is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of antibiotics, such as nafcillin sodium and cefalexin. It has industrial applications as a solvent and as a reagent for organic reactions. 2-Ethoxy-1-naphthoic acid can be used to produce sulfoxide, peroxide, and chloride by oxidizing the corresponding alcohols. This chemical also has the ability to form reactive intermediates with thionyl chloride or N-chlorosuccinimide. These intermediates can react with other compounds in a way that may lead to allergic reactions or environmental pollution when exposed to air or water. 2-Ethoxy-1-naphthoic acid is soluble in organic solvents such as naphthalene, benzene, and hexane.
