8-Ethoxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid hydrate is a synthetic molecule that has been shown to modulate the solute transport system in the cornea. It is a reconstituted compound that has been shown as an active substance in vitro. 8-Ethoxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid hydrate is an analog of hyaluronic acid and is used as a pharmaceutical dosage form. This compound inhibits the enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase, which results in increased production of substances such as retinol, which are important for normal cell function. 8-Ethoxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid hydrate has been shown to be effective for the treatment of corneal surface disorders, such as keratoconus, by increasing the amount of water retained on the corneal surface.
