- Europium Trifluoromethanesulfonate
Europium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate (Eu(OTf)) is a redox-active complex that has been used as a catalyst in asymmetric synthesis. Eu(OTf) can be synthesized by the reaction of europium(III) oxide and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. This compound is typically applied as an activator in salt metathesis, which is an organic reaction between two molecules of different metals. The process involves the formation of a new carbon-metal bond, with the release of hydrogen gas. Europium(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate has also been used to catalyze the coupling of coumarin derivatives with amines.
